Gin Club

30th June 2023 | 00:00-23:59

The nations favourite spirit… Gin.
So it only felt right that we showcase this spirit in true Blind Tyger fashion, and just in time for the summer months ahead!
We will be realising a 3 month showcase of the best brands, signature drinks, gin flights, masterclasses & tastings

First up in the 3 month showcase

May – Portobello Road Gin

The brand was created by the founders of The Ginstitute. Once just a museum, now one of the world’s premier gin educational attractions— naturally, they needed to have a gin.
While they now operate out of their own building at 186 Portobello Road, Portobello Road No. 171 Gin is an homage to the Portobello Star (address 171 Portobello Road) where The Ginstitute first operated out of in the early 2010’s.
The gin itself is designed in the London Dry Style. It features nine botanicals distilled on a base of wheat.

June – No. 3 Gin

No.3 Gin was created by Berry Bros. & Rudd, London’s oldest wine and spirt merchant, based at No.3 St James’s Street since 1698.  In 2008 Berry Bros. & Rudd set out the ultimate challenge: to create the perfect London Dry Gin and set a new benchmark for quality.
It took two years; working with the ultimate masters in gin to refine the perfect recipe, including Dr. David Clutton – the only person in the world to have a PhD in gin.
The result was a perfect balance of juniper, citrus and spice made possible by craftsmanship, passion and precision.

July – Haymans

In the mid 00’s, the Cocktail Renaissance was just getting rolling. All over the world, bartenders were dusting off century-old cocktail books and trying to recreate them— or improve upon them. There was just one major problem. Many of these spirits references in these old books just weren’t made anymore. Old Tom was a common category of gin at the turn of the 20th century. Slightly sweetened— either with some sort of sugar or with intense botanicals— these gins differed dramatically from the dry gins.
The Hayman family heard the cries of the cocktail community. Somewhere, deep in the family archives, was a recipe for an Old Tom Gin dating back to 1870. In 2007, Hayman’s Old Tom Gin launched.
The ten botanicals, playfully referred to as the “Hayman 10,” on which all of their gins are based, are added to neutral grain spirit for a 24 hour maceration period before distillation. After distillation Haymans Old Tom is gently sweetened with sugar.
